OAKLAND TO MIAMI AND THEN THERE'S THE FUCKING KIDS
I learned traditional Korean drumming when I lived in Oakland, years ago, so when KYCC had their 20 year anniversary at the Oakland asian culture center, I went down to support, little did I know I was gonna get bombarded by the fucking kids. Here’s how the dialog went down in the e-mails after I met the lady in charge. (I’m putting this here so everyone that contacts me for their group shows can see where I stand on this, and just because I softened on this one , doesn’t mean I’m gonna do anymore, and even though I don’t steal anymore I still have the robin hood spirit, If you need money for a charity or a good cause, go steal it)
Hello Mr. David Choe,
I am following up with you to make sure you will be donating some of your art pieces for our First Ever Korean American Artist Showcase and Gallery Walk, December 8th, at OACC. Your commitment to the youth and the program will change the whole dynamic of the event. We will get more people to attend and I think artists will bring forth their best work because you will be supporting the program. We are so excited to have you support our program and we are all every excited that you will help save our youth program!!! Please let me know if you need anything before the event. Here is the new flyer featuring you. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.-thanks CJ
hey cj it was nice to meet you
i hope i wasnt too much of an asshole
but i 'm just being honest, i usually hate these kinds of events,
i hate group shows, i hate being associated with other artists just
cuz we're korean, i hate cheesy grafitti hip hop letters and dancing
anyways now that you know where i'm coming from, i do love the kids
and i want you to know i'm only doing this because i like anna kim's
art i think she has the potential to be great one day,
and i don't want korean kids in oakland to have nowhere to go.
i'm gonna finish one big 4 foot by 4 foot painting tomorrow you guys
can come by next week to pick it up, i live in san jose,
i'd bring it up myself but i dont have any time right now.
Thanks
In the end the faces of all the under privelleged Oakland youths won me over I’ll be donating one 4 foot by 4 foot painting to help support the cause
(see the work in progress below, it’s title IDIOT FART TRIES TO OPEN A JAR OF KIM CHEE ) to find out more about this event please contact

This invitation only exhibition will take place during Art Basel : Miami Beach 2007. The mission of this exhibition is to provide the artists
with donated outdoor wall space throughout the Wynwood Art District, Miami, Florida. The artists are free to install their murals as they see fit, without the confinement of the typical gallery environment.
There will be no art for sale nor a cheese & wine reception - just an entire district of murals, open 24 hours a day, featuring works by some of contemporary arts heaviest hitters.
A website will be available to download a pdf file of the official map, acting as your guide to the street exhibition.
